World Trade Center Mumbai’s M Visvesvaraya Center of Excellence has partnered with Center for Study of Social Change (CSSC) to launch a 15-day certificate course on Geriatric Care. The course is part of a major skill development initiative of WTC Mumbai.

Around 33 beneficiaries from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) will be trained by experts in the field of Geriatric Care in this 30-hour course. The entire project is supported by the I&H Udani Charitable Trust.

The course was launched by Mr. Rahul Narwekar, speaker of the Maharashtra state legislative assembly in the presence of several dignitaries like Ms. Harshita Narwekar, former corporator, MCGM and Mr. Vijay Kalantri, Chairman, WTC Mumbai.

Lauding the efforts of the WTC to offer skill development programs of WTC Mumbai, Mr. Narwekar said, “The Geriatric Care course not only upskills the beneficiaries and provides them with employment, but also ensures holistic social welfare. There are many women amongst this group. Financially independent and Atmanirbhar women are an important part of the Hon’ble Indian PM Narendra Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.”

The syllabus is being designed in such a way that the beneficiaries will be trained in basic medical conditions in the elderly and associated management. This course is for people who would work as direct formal caregiver at home/clinic/hospital/old age home/day care centre for the elderly in need of care. The course has theory and demonstration classes, including practical sessions.

The curriculum is designed not only to take care of the health aspect, but also on rehabilitation and mental health issues of the seniors.

Outlining his vision for Skill Development, Dr. Vijay Kalantri, Chairman, WTC Mumbai told the gathering that they are committed to the cause. “In the coming months, the Center of Excellence will run courses for EWS and ensure placements. Our focus is also skill programs for SMEs and MSMEs. Courses training them in accelerating their businesses are in the pipeline.”
